Horris Hill
Horris Hill School is an independent day and boarding preparatory school for boys aged 4 to 13, located in West Berkshire. With its stunning countryside setting and a rich history spanning over 130 years, Horris Hill was founded in 1888 by Mr. A. H. Evans, a master at Winchester College. Horris Hill is a small school with a loving environment for only 120 kids, including a new co-ed Lower School from nursery to year 3 in this September 2023, which is an exciting time of change and development for the school. So, the girl will be able to benefit from the care and education that the school offers as well.
The school's academic program aims to develop learning skills and inspire each student, strongly emphasising STEM subjects and traditional academic subjects such as English, maths, science, and modern foreign languages such as French and Latin. The students are placed in a class size of 15 pupils with full attention from the teacher. Naturally, attention has an enormously beneficial effect on kids.
One of the defining features of Horris Hill School is its warm and welcoming boarding community, where students from diverse backgrounds come together to form a lifelong friendship and develop independence, resilience, and self-confidence. Boarding life at Horris Hill School is a unique and rewarding experience for boys in years 4 to 8, providing them with a safe and supportive environment. The school's boarding houses are spacious, modern, and comfortable, with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere that makes students feel at home. Currently, Horris Hill School has four boarding houses. Each boarding house is staffed by a team of caring and experienced housemasters and housemistresses, who work closely with students to ensure their physical, emotional, and academic needs are met.
Boys in years 4 to 8 can choose from a range of boarding options, including full boarding, weekly boarding, or flexible boarding, depending on their needs and preferences. Full boarders live at the school throughout the term, while weekly boarders return home at weekends. Flexi-boarders have the flexibility to stay overnight at the school on a part-time basis, allowing families to balance the demands of work and family life.
Boarding life at Horris Hill School is designed to be fun, engaging, and enriching, with many school activities and events to suit all interests and abilities. There is always something exciting happening at the school starting with the main sports are football, rugby, hockey and cricket and facilities include many pitches, a 9-hole golf course, a sports hall, a gymnasium, squash courts, a heated outdoor swimming pool, an all-weather pitch and artificial cricket nets. Moreover, on the art side, there are many opportunities for boys to get involved in music at all levels, whether they are beginners or advanced musicians. The school has a dedicated music department and a team of experienced music teachers who provide individual and group tuition in a wide range of instruments, including piano, guitar, drums, strings, woodwind, and brass. More importantly, performing arts ticks all the boxes in terms of confidence, language development, IQ, and better exam results.
